6 Tips for Throwing A Wickedly Fun Halloween Party

Throwing A Wickedly Fun Halloween Party

Boo! It’s Spooky Season, which means it’s time to start planning your Halloween parties! If you’re looking for some great ideas on how to throw a wickedly fun Halloween party, read these tips listed below!

1. Decide On A Theme

The first step in planning your Halloween party is to decide on a theme! This will help you and your guests know what to prepare for. Need some ideas? Choose from this list of themes to get started:

  • Nightmare On (Your Street)
  • Ghosts, Ghouls, and Good Times
  • Murder Mystery
  • Meme Theme
  • Pumpkin Patch Panic
  • Eat, Drink, & Be Scary
  • Disco of Death
  • Haunted Hoedown
  • Creepy Crawlies

Once you’ve decided on your theme, you can make invitations, get decorations, buy or make your costume, and start planning! If you want to do a costume contest, game night, or other event where your guests will need to prep, you’ll want to let them know in the invitations. So, plan this out when deciding on your theme as well!

2. Decorate

Going all out on decorations doesn’t mean you have to spend a fortune! In fact, local dollar stores have a ton of spooktacular Halloween decorations to choose from! You can also buy inexpensive items that go a long way such as ‘spider webs’ to hang along walls, around banisters, or across doorways, or tablecloths that set a perfect undertone for whatever party scene you choose.

You’ll want to make sure your decorations go with your theme, so if you chose the theme ‘Ghosts, Ghouls, and Good Times,’ you’ll want to make sure there are lots of ghosts and ghouls flying around! If you chose the theme ‘Pumpkin Patch Panic,’ you’ll want to have pumpkins lying around, a pumpkin patterned or colored tablecloth, and maybe even pumpkin string lights!

Speaking of lights, you’ll want to be sure you change your light bulbs to Halloween colored bulbs in the main areas of your home. Halloween parties are supposed to give off a spooky vibe, and people coming in and turning all the lights on is not spooky!

3. Get Creative With Food

The food at your Halloween party should go with your theme as well! However, you can also branch out a little more on the food if you want. If you’re planning on having a snack table, things like mummified pigs in a blanket, lady fingers, brainy cheeseballs, and pumpkin shaped pizza bites are great options!

There are tons of ideas for creepy desserts as well. Spider cookies, ghostly strawberries, pumpkin pies, eyeball gummies, bleeding cupcakes, and graveyard brownies are just a few! Don’t forget about drinks, too! Drinks can be served in Halloween themed glasses or cups, made to be spooky colors, or safely served with dry ice! 4. Play Some Spooky Sounds

You want to set the tone of the party with some sounds playing in the background. This is another great way to make a huge difference in the aesthetic of your party in such a simple way. Look up a Halloween playlist on your phone or TV, and play it on a speaker or on surround sound at a low volume. It’ll make an impact on your guests without them even knowing it!

5. Play Seasonal or Themed Games

It’s never a party without games! If you’re having a small party, feel free to play board games or card games at your party. If you’re having a larger party, play more interactive games like a murder mystery game or similar. If you’re looking for a way to entertain the kids and keep them off their electronics, some fun backyard games include cornhole, apple bobbing, candy corn bowling, witch hat ring toss, or pumpkin tic-tac-toe. You could even have the kids doing cute crafts that they can take home.
