What does a heat pump do?

A heat pump keeps your home cool in the summer and warm in the winter. In cooling mode, it moves heat from inside your home to the outdoors. When you need heat, it reverses direction and brings heat inside. That comes in handy around here, where we use our air conditioning plenty but still get chilly days.

Is a heat pump the same as an air conditioner?

They’re similar, and both can cool your home. The difference is that a heat pump can also heat your home by reversing how it operates. A conventional air conditioner can’t do that on its own.

Does every Florida home have a heat pump?

Nope! Some homes have an air conditioner paired with a furnace or another heating system. If you’re not sure what’s keeping your home comfortable, a Climatech technician can identify your equipment during a service visit.

Will a heat pump work when it gets cold?

Yes. Heat pumps can keep homes warm during cooler weather. Some systems also have supplemental heat to help when temperatures drop or the home needs to warm up quickly. What works best depends on your home and your equipment.

Can replacing my system lower my energy bills?

It can. If your current system is older or struggling to keep up, a newer, more efficient heat pump could lower your heating and cooling costs. How much you save depends on the system you have now, the one you choose, your home, and how you use it.

Climatech can walk you through heat pump options from brands such as American Standard, Daikin, and Mitsubishi Electric to help you find a fit for your home and budget.

How do I know if my heat pump needs service or replacement?

Uneven temperatures, strange noises, frequent repairs, or a system that seems to run all the time are signs it’s worth having someone take a look. They don’t necessarily mean you need a new system. Our technicians can check what’s going on and talk you through your options, including ways to improve efficiency.
